The following blog post Be Inspired – Give Your Car The Protection It Needs is due to Custom Outdoor Living
Carports come in all different shapes and sizes and here at Custom Outdoor Living, we’ve been able to provide our customers with a wide range of different styles. Common to all of these approaches though is to ensure the design complements the style of the property. You can have a look at some of our carport designs here.
A single width structure is very popular, particularly with those who have limited space on their property. It’s a perfect fit for limited space, while at the same time providing the shelter your vehicle needs to protect it from the elements. We’ve seen all manner of styles ranging from a small budget installation to a more modern and sleek look and feel.
Below is a very interesting concept utilising the space available combing the need to shelter a single vehicle and a play area for the children.
Designer Visit: A Carport Makes a Difference
In the case of this remodel, a family of four with two young children asked King to create an entire outdoor living space out of a parking space sandwiched between two neighbouring houses. King’s ingenious solution was to build a carport structure which does three things: encloses the outdoor space for the children to play safely, preserves the parking space, and provides a rooftop for an outdoor terrace.
We realise it can be quite a difficult step to know where to start. You might be at the stage where you’ve made the decision to build some form of protective structure for your car, but not sure whether a garage or carport is the best option.
Because we specialise in timber framed carports, we’d be a little biased in saying it’s a great choice to make, but we realise there may be certain factors preventing you from moving forward with that decision. Maybe you’re not too sure about the aesthetic quality of this particular structure. The fact is, they can be made to look very pleasing on the eye. If you’re stuck for ideas, you might be inspired by some of the following concepts.
Though it’s sometimes looked down upon as a dowdy counterpart to its enclosed cousin, the garage, the carport is a functional and—as these examples from Dwell’s archives suggest—often elegant touch that complements a modern house.
